Shop Act Registration
Shop Act License is a type of Legal permission which legally allows us to do business in a particular place. It gives you a proof of a particular business being done at that place. It comes under the Department of Labor of the State Government.
The objective is to secure uniform benefits for employees working in different establishments, from shops, commercial establishments and residential hotels to restaurants, theatres and other places of public amusement or entertainment. This Act is not restricted to the commercial establishment but also applicable to societies, charitable trust, educational institutes and any other establishment which runs on the motive of earning a profit. Shop and Establishment Act is not applicable to factories.
A Shop and Establishment License remains valid for a Period of five years, and the same is eligible to get renewed after five years.
Who is required to obtain registration under the Shop and Establishment Act?
- Retail and wholesale shops;
- Premises where services are rendered to customers including office;
- Storeroom, go down or warehouse;
- Workhouse or workplace, used for trade or business;
- Commercial establishment;
- Residential hotel;
- Restaurant or eating house;
- Theatre or place of public entertainment or amusement.
